Practical questions

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before booking.

Do I need a car?

Yes. Wherever you stay in Marie-Galante, a car is essential: beaches, distilleries and villages are spread across the island, and buses and taxis are scarce. We can connect you with a rental agency; agencies and rates are listed on the Getting here page.

How far are the ferry terminal and the beaches?

The Grand-Bourg ferry terminal, where the ferry from Pointe-à-Pitre docks, is 8 miles (13 km) from the villa, about 20 minutes by car; the Saint-Louis dock is 12 miles (19 km) away, about 25 minutes. The closest beaches are Plage des Galets, at the foot of the Route des Galets, then La Feuillère and Petite Anse, in Capesterre. The map on the Contact page shows the villa, the ferry terminal and the beaches.

Where do we pick up the keys?

Our local host meets you at the Grand-Bourg ferry terminal and takes you to the villa. Another option, especially if your ferry docks in Saint-Louis: we welcome you directly at the villa, where the person meeting you hands over the keys.

What are check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 4 pm and check-out by 10 am. These times are flexible depending on ferry schedules and the stays before and after yours: just tell us when you expect to arrive.

Are linens provided?

Yes, bed linen and bath towels are provided. Beach towels are lent on request against a €20 deposit per towel.

Is there Wi-Fi?

Yes, the villa has Wi-Fi.

Is the villa suitable for children and babies?

Yes: crib, high chair, baby bath and feeding accessories are available. The pool is secured by a safety alarm. Discover the villa.

Is the pool private and safe?

Yes. The villa is rented as a whole, so the pool is not shared with anyone. It is a 26 × 13 ft (8 × 4 m) infinity pool facing the Caribbean Sea, secured by a safety alarm. The alarm never replaces adult supervision: do not leave a child alone near the pool. More details: Villa with pool in Marie-Galante.

Are pets allowed?

No, pets are not allowed in the villa.

How do I get to Marie-Galante?

Fly into Pointe-à-Pitre (PTP), Guadeloupe, then take a one-hour ferry to Grand-Bourg, or a short connecting flight. We help you plan the crossing. Flights, ferries and timetables: Getting here.

When is the best time to visit Marie-Galante?

The dry season, called carême, runs from January to April according to Météo-France, the French weather service: it is the least rainy time of year. The wet season, hivernage, runs from June to November: it is warmer, showers are more frequent, and hurricane season lasts from June 1 to November 30. The sea stays between 79 and 84 °F (26 to 29 °C) all year. Humpback whales pass offshore from December to May, and the Terre de Blues festival takes place every year on Pentecost weekend. Our season dates and rates are on the Rates page.

You deal with the owners directly, with no platform service fees, and can ask all your questions before committing. Send a request.

How do deposits and cancellations work?

You sign the contract online, then pay a 40% down payment by bank transfer: your booking is confirmed once we receive it. The balance is due by bank transfer no later than 30 days before your arrival; if you arrive within 30 days, everything is paid as soon as you sign. The cleaning fee (€160 with 2 bedrooms, €200 with 3 bedrooms) is paid in cash to our local host on arrival. The security deposit is €1,500. If you live in France, it is a check handed over on arrival: it is not cashed and is returned to you within 30 days after your departure. If you live abroad, it is a bank transfer, made no later than 7 days before your arrival and refunded within 30 days after your departure. If you cancel more than 60 days before arrival, 10% of the price of the stay is retained; 60 to 11 days before, the 40% down payment is retained; 10 days or less, the full price of the stay is due. The tourist tax and the cleaning fee are never due for a cancelled stay. Full details are in our rental terms. Rates and availability: Rates.
